MY PROCESS / THE DOUBLE DIAMOND

First, find the
right question.

Two diamonds. Four stages.
Find the right problem. Then shape the right solution.

01 / DISCOVER · EXPAND

Explore
the opportunity.

Research widely. Understand people, context, and opportunity.

02 / DEFINE · FOCUS

Find the right
problem to solve.

Converge on one core problem statement.

03 / DEVELOP · EXPAND

Explore and
brainstorm ideas.

Create alternatives. Prototype and learn.

04 / DELIVER · FOCUS

Test, refine,
and launch.

Bring the right solution to life. Keep learning.

THE FRAMEWORK IS NEAT. REAL WORK ISN’T.

My process isn’t
symmetrical.

I spend time where the uncertainty is.
And revisit stages when I learn something new.

THE 5Ws / THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS

The same questions.
A deeper understanding.

  • Who
  • What
  • Why
  • Where
  • When
  1. Discover
  2. Define
  3. Develop
  4. Deliver

I answer them at the start,
then revisit them at every stage.

THE OUTCOMENOT A RIGID CHECKLIST

Two diamonds.
One clearer direction.

I move between discovery and delivery as the evidence changes.
The framework gives the work structure. It doesn’t make the decisions.

01 / Discover

Explore the opportunity.

Research widely. Understand people, context, and opportunity.

02 / Define

Find the right problem to solve.

Bring together user need, business opportunity, and technical possibility. Converge on one core problem statement.

03 / Develop

Explore and brainstorm ideas.

Explore alternative directions, prototype the risky parts, and test assumptions before polishing a single answer.

04 / Deliver

Test, refine, and launch.

Select the right solution, refine it with engineering, and launch. Keep learning from how people use it.

In practice

My process isn’t symmetrical.

The stages do not take equal time. I spend time where the uncertainty is, and revisit earlier stages when new evidence changes the direction.

The 5Ws / Throughout the process

The same questions. A deeper understanding.

Who, What, Why, Where, and When. I answer them at the start, then revisit them at every stage as my understanding changes.
